Welcome to the third installment of Bedding News Now’s look at the best mattress retailers across the country. This report profiles bedding standouts in the Midwest.

We developed these reports by inviting industry submissions, combing through the latest installment of the Home News Now 125 Furniture and Bedding Retailers, and then identified other mattress retailers known for their commitment to the category. After reviewing our candidates with a number of mattress manufacturers, suppliers, and consultants, we arrived at our selections for the Best In Bedding Retailers in each region.

We excluded national mattress retailers like Mattress Firm, which have a strong presence in many regions of the country.

The retailers we are saluting are not listed by volume. Our goal is not to simply recognize mattress revenues, although many of these retailers are generating high mattress volumes, but to celebrate the depth of commitment to the mattress category in all sizes of bedding operations, from single-store giants to chains with hundreds of stores.

Best In Bedding in the Midwest: HOM Furniture

HOM Furniture, based in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, serves customers in the upper Midwestern states of Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin and the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, under the brand names HOM Furniture, Dock 86, Gabberts Design Studio and Fine Furnishings, and Hennen’s Furniture, as well as online. Acquired Hennen’s Furniture in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in December 2025 along with its distribution center. The retailer will continue to operate under its own name.

Why they stand out: “HOM Furniture has built a well-earned reputation through an unwavering commitment to quality, value, and customer service – and it shows in everything they do,” says Frank Hood, CEO of Kingsdown, a vendor. “What stands out most about the HOM team is their kindness, commitment, and deep connection to the communities they serve.”

Adds Dan Haugland, key account manager for Serta Simmons Bedding, another vendor: “This recognition is a testament to HOM Furniture’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and delivering exceptional experiences for its customers. We are proud to partner with such a strong organization that sets the standard in our industry.”

Last year’s winner: Gardner-White Furniture

Gardner-White Furniture, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, operates throughout Michigan with Gardner-White showrooms, GW Mattress and GW Home. In 2025, opened six new locations including two new brand concepts – GW Home which opened in downtown Detroit, featuring a curated selection of furniture, home decor, art, accessories and gifts, and GW Mattress, a stand-alone mattress gallery that opened in Brighton and Midland, Michigan. In 2026, opened two more GW Mattress stores in Woodhaven and Washington Township, Michigan. GW is in the process of opening nine more locations this year, many of which have already opened, in former American Signature Furniture and Value City Furniture showrooms, including its first in Ohio, in metro Toledo. Will also introduce another new brand, GW Outlet, in Novi, Michigan.

Why they stand out: The company has built a reputation as a mattress destination with a strong focus on the category, and a broad lineup of leading brands and sleep accessories that appeals to consumers shopping value price points and high-end goods. Deep experience in the mattress category sets the retailer apart from its competition.

Help us honor excellence in mattress retailing: Bedding News Now will be joining with Andmore and sponsors Bread Financial, Snap Finance, and Serta Simmons Bedding to host a bedding event at the Las Vegas Market at 4:30 p.m., Monday, July 27, at WorldView on the 16th floor of Building B on the World Market Center campus. We will be honoring top mattress retailers at that event, which is open to all market attendees. Cocktails and appetizers will be served.
