by What’s happening: Bedding Industries of America (BIA) is expanding its international presence with the signing of Arpitech Ltd., the largest mattress manufacturer in Sri Lanka.
Why it matters: Arpitech — now the 83rd global licensee for BIA — is a vertically integrated manufacturer that has the capacity to produce 10,000 units per week. In addition to its two local plants, the company has 30 of its own retail stores in the country and distributes to more than 1,000 stores in the region, where they plan to grow the Eclipse brand.
“Through this licensing agreement, we decided to start by manufacturing the tried-and-true Eclipse brand due to its reputable presence in India,” said Shaminda Yaddehige, chief operating officer for Arpitech. “We wanted a product that already has great success worldwide and gives our people a quality product with a great reputation. We know and respect Stuart and his team, and we are looking forward to developing our relationship to incorporate more of Bedding Industries of America’s well-known brands.”
Based in North Brunswick, N.J., Bedding Industries of America (BIA) is a global licensor of a number of mattress brands, including Ernest Hemingway, Eastman House, Van Vorst and Eclipse International. Today, the company has 16 licensees in the U.S. and 67 overseas.
