Welcome to the first installment of Bedding News Now’s look at the best mattress retailers across the country. This report profiles bedding standouts in the Northeast.
We developed these reports by inviting industry submissions, combing through the latest installment of the Home News Now 125 Furniture and Bedding Retailers, and then identified other mattress retailers known for their commitment to the category. After reviewing our candidates with industry experts, we arrived at our selections for the Best In Bedding Retailers in each region.
We excluded national mattress retailers like Mattress Firm, which have a strong presence in many regions of the country.
The retailers we are saluting are not listed by volume. Our goal is not to simply recognize mattress revenues, although many of these retailers are generating high mattress volumes, but to celebrate the depth of commitment to the mattress category in all sizes of bedding operations, from single-store giants to chains with hundreds of stores.
Best In Bedding in the Northeast: Long’s Bedding & Interiors
Long’s Bedding & Interiors, based in New York City, is a New York landmark, finding a niche in the competitive New York metro market that it has served for more than a century. The fourth-generation family business, which started as a small mattress factory in Harlem in 1911, has welcomed numerous celebrities over the years, including John Lennon, Mick Jagger and John Kennedy. Consumers trust Long’s to meet all of their sleep needs with quality products.
Why they stand out: “Long’s Bedding & Interiors takes mattress buying, often a frustrating and complicated hidden purchase, and turns it into a transparent and caring buying process,” says Richard Fleck, president of Paramount Sleep, a longtime vendor. “Long’s makes mattress buying easy, with a pleasant and relaxed shopping experience with no pressure and a focus on solving sleep problems. The company treats every customer like family and is willing to do whatever it takes to satisfy its customers. Its offering of luxury brands, boutique brands and value-oriented brands gives it an incredible selection of compelling products.”
Last year’s winner: Raymour & Flanigan
Raymour & Flanigan, based in Liverpool, New York, operates throughout the Northeast in Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. It sells furniture, mattresses and home décor through its retail stores, clearance centers, outlets and online. Top bedding brands include Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Serta and Beautyrest.
Why they stand out: With an experienced, well-respected merchandising team, Raymour & Flanigan puts mattresses in the spotlight in all of its stores. It benefits from a cadre of well-trained, professional salespeople who are adept at selling mattresses at all price points.
Notable mattress retailers in the Northeast
- Bob’s Discount Furniture, based in Manchester, Connecticut, is a publicly held home furnishings retailer operating 209 showrooms, including 26 with an outlet, across 26 states at year end. In 2025, 22 stores opened, with 20 new locations and two relocations. In 2026, it is planning to open approximately 20 new units, continuing its expansion in North Carolina and opening its first-ever stores in South Carolina and Tennessee.
Why they stand out: Heard of the Bob-O-Pedic? The retailer promotes its own mattress brand as part of a major emphasis on the mattress category, one that sets it apart from many other furniture stores. Bob’s touts a value story that helps drive strong mattress sales. - Jordan’s Furniture, based in East Taunton, Massachusetts, is part of Berkshire Hathaway’s home furnishings group. That group consists of Jordan’s, with eight showrooms; Nebraska Furniture Mart of Omaha, Nebraska; RC Willey of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Star Furniture of Houston.
Why they stand out: Is this a furniture store or an entertainment playground? It’s actually both, and that’s part of the genius of Jordan’s, where IMAX theaters and indoor ropes courses attract consumers who just might become mattress shoppers. Jordan’s delivers superior entertainment experiences and shopping experiences, presenting its mattress brands in a superior light.
- Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses, based in Swansea, Massachusetts, has a family history that spans almost a century and operates stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
Why they stand out: Retailing is a family affair at Cardi’s, as exemplified by the acronym “NIROPE,” which stands for Nick, Ron and Peter Cardi. The Cardis are the face of the business, they give back to the communities they serve, and they give Cardi’s customers the confidence of knowing they are buying from a family that values their business.
- Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture, based in Norton, Massachusetts, is a New England retailer operating showrooms in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine, as well as an e-commerce site. Showrooms are located in Braintree, Hyannis, Natick, Raynham, Saugus and Westboro, Massachusetts, Nashua and Newington, New Hampshire, and South Portland, Maine.
Why they stand out: The Rubin family has a well-earned reputation for caring about the communities the company serves. Beautiful showrooms enhance the shopping experience.
