According to an email obtained by Bedding News Now from a close source, American Mattress has converted its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing into a Chapter 7, often called “liquidation bankruptcy.” All American Mattress stores in Illinois and Indiana will be closed as of March 10, 2026.
Here is the email:

American Mattress filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 2025 with estimated assets and debts both in the $1 million to $10 million range. The number of creditors is between 100 and 199.
The sleep specialty chain that operates more than 95 stores in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Florida and Missouri, listed five mattress manufacturers as some of its top unsecured creditors, namely Adventure Mattress, Bedding Industries of America, Customatic Sleep Technologies, Serta/Simmons and Tempur‑Pedic.
In total, they are owed more than $2.06 million and Adventure Mattress, a bedding brand founded in 2023 by Bob Sherman and Barbara Bradford, is listed as the top unsecured creditor with a claim of more than $1.21 million.
