MotoSleep rethinks adjustable bases with Infinity base

With sizable factories in China and Vietnam and showrooms in High Point and Las Vegas MotoMotion has made a name for itself in the home furnishings world with practical features that make its furniture unique.

And behind the company lies a sleeping giant: MotoSleep.

The adjustable base providers uses a fusion of MotoMotion’s patented motion technologies and electronic features, making it a “lifestyle enhancing system,” according to the company.

The manufacturer is 100% vertically integrated, according to Rick Sterzer, EVP of sales and marketing.

“All the components, motors, actuators, massage units, hand controls and everything that goes into a MotoMotion and MotoSleep products is made by us,” he says. “We are the only true 100% manufacturer of an adjustable base. We don’t buy components from third parties, like all other adjustable bases providers, which puts us in a unique position and allows us to control quality and offer better value in terms of pricing and quality.”

The company has invested in technology and research, and development to design and develop its own components.

And while this story is compelling, the company has been operating under the radar for some time. One of the first products MotoMotion introduced was an adjustable base, but MotoSleep didn’t fully develop until years later.

Now, the company is on a mission to make its name and capabilities known. In fact, when Bedding News Now spoke with Sterzer for the article, he was in the middle of a road trip where he was offering MotoSleep’s adjustable base demos to key retailers around the country.

As for the product itself, the bases are loaded with tech features like speakers and lights, but it also has a few distinct touches.

The Infinity base, which is the company’s core product at the moment, has a patented one-piece folding design that allows it to be shipped more easily and set up quickly. It fits any bed frame and features the company’s patented SoftFirm technology that is “optimized for no-pinch comfort,” according to a video on the company’s website.

“Our Infinity base gets into an infinite number of positions,” Sterzer says. “It moves uniquely and like nothing that’s ever been presented in the category. The feet and back go up to new heights, and there are three different benefits to the Infinity base. ‘First there are infinite comfort positions. Second, there are health benefits of elevating your legs—it increases blood circulation, decreases inflammation. And the third benefit is a wellness benefit, which is about providing an assisted stretch or a stretch routine, either in the morning or evening.”

This is a big step for the company in rethinking the category and reimagining the functionality of what has been just considered a traditional base, according to Sterzer. “The adjustable base category hasn’t had a whole lot of innovation other than speakers, and this is a step forward.”

Looking ahead, Sterzer says the company will continue to innovate and make itself known in the bedding industry as a premium supplier of adjustable bases.

“Innovation in this category is pulled from the furniture side of it— fresh design, comfort concepts and systems. We’re now thinking about how to integrate that into adjustable bases, to rethink the adjustable base category in terms of comfort and functionality.”
