A look at Memorial Day mattress sales across the web

Memorial Day marks the start of mattress sales season, but economic uncertainties may damper sales numbers this year.

According to several manufacturers that Bedding News Now spoke with at High Point Market, retailers and manufacturers are not getting their hopes up for Memorial Day.

Steve Karns, vice president of sales at Bedding Industries of America, said he thinks bigger brands like Mattress Firm and Saatva will mostly drive sales this year.

“They create a raised awareness for the holiday, but consumers create their own fear when it comes to buying,” he says. “And if they come in, they’re not there to kick tires, so retailers should take advantage of that and make the sale.”

The question has been raised about whether consumers will be more likely to come out and buy what they need on sales holidays to beat the paused tariffs, but Toby Konetzny, CEO of South Bay International, does not think that’s likely.

“Mattresses are an easy purchase to put off,” he says. “If they do come out, they will buy things they need more than a mattress, like a refrigerator. Consumers don’t understand the tariffs, and mattresses won’t be hit too hard by them.”

Ian Hayes, vice president of sales for Magniflex, says there may be positive pent-up demand that comes out on Memorial Day, causing more sales for those retailers who get the traffic.

He also says that pushing financing is becoming important again, but the industry is not getting on board with it in a big way.

But no retailer is lying down and accepting defeat, so Bedding News Now scoured the internet to find popular sales deals across the country.

Identifying itself on its website as “America’s No. 1 Tempur-Pedic Retailer,” Mattress Firm is offering up to 70% off and a free adjustable base with select purchases. The company is also touting 72 months of financing on select purchases with a Mattress Firm credit card.

At Saatva, consumers can save an extra $100 off, for a total of up to $600 off, when they purchase an adjustable base plus or an upholstered bed frame with a mattress. This means they can take $200 off a purchase of $950-$1,999 and take an additional $100 off for every price point increase. Additional offers include 25% off select bed frames, 20% off all rugs, and get two nightstands, save $200. The company is also offering financing through Affirm.

Mattress Warehouse is also touting up to 70% off, as well as savings up to $500 on adjustable base purchases through Tempur-Pedic. Customers can save up to $1,000 on adjustables from companies such as Purple, BeautyRest and Stearns & Foster.
