ISPA Sustainability conference to spotlight circular innovation practices in bedding industry

The International Sleep Products Association’s 2025 Sustainability Conference will take place Sept. 10-11 at the Wyndham Atlanta Buckhead Hotel & Conference Center in Atlanta. The conference brings together professionals across the bedding industry value chain to collaborate on advancing sustainability practices and innovation.

This year’s program takes a deeper look at circular design, with a live mattress disassembly demonstration with expert commentary from a panel of mattress recyclers. Attendees will benefit from a firsthand look at end-of-life product challenges and solutions.

Designed to spark collaboration, the conference features ample networking opportunities and a robust speaker lineup, including:

  • Robbie Moon, Thomas Williams-Wells Fargo professor in management and associate professor of accounting, Georgia Institute of Technology, will open the conference with a morning workshop on Greenhouse Gas accounting, exploring practical methods for tracking, measuring and reporting emissions. The afternoon offers attendees an industry work group on circular design led by Ryan McMullan of Lean Green Way and Kate Caddy of ISPA.

  • Deborah Mielewski, retired technical fellow, sustainability, at Ford Motor Co., will share her insights on how businesses drive sustainability through real-world partnerships and proven innovative strategies.

  • Tim Theil, circular economy manager at Covestro, will discuss how the company is working toward full circularity through joint solutions and collaborative practices.

  • Priyanka Shome, vice president of sustainability at One Rock Capital Partners, and Andrew R. Prusky, senior vice president and general counsel at FXI, will explore how sustainability considerations shape investment decisions, business priorities and long-term value creation.

  • Joel Hartter, founder of Parallel Labs, will highlight how industries are transforming returns, surplus materials and customer churn into new revenue streams and deepen customer relationships.

  • Nick Oettinger, CEO of the Furniture Recycling Group, and Emma Reid, director of sustainability at Simba Sleep, will showcase how returns and mattress end of life can be reimagined as circular success stories.

“ISPA’s Sustainability Conference is truly one of a kind. It’s the only event dedicated to moving sustainability forward in the mattress industry,” says Kate Caddy, director of sustainability at ISPA. “We’ve built the program around the trends, challenges and topics our industry has asked for. The 2025 conference features a strong mix of expert speakers and interactive sessions to help attendees reach their goals, stay ahead of evolving regulations and build meaningful connections across the value chain.”
