Cariloha recently launched its Bamboo Renew program, a dedicated platform for customers to buy or sell preowned products, with the aim of extending the lifecycle of bamboo textiles and reducing waste.
Partnering with Treet, the branded resale platform, Cariloha customers can buy verified items and participate in resale programs that reduce environmental impact and give discarded items a second chance at life.
The program highlights Cariloha’s commitment to sustainability, and we reached out to Scott Brady, vice president of communications at Cariloha, to find out more about how the program works.
1. How did the Bamboo Renew program come to be?
Cariloha wanted to create an online destination where people could shop, trade in and, ultimately, renew Cariloha bamboo. The brand wanted to give their products a circular life and keep them out of landfills. Their program is called Bamboo Renew.
2. Are there any other programs like this in the bedding industry?
None like this program. Many other businesses and organizations provide opportunities for recycling and trade-in, but this platform provides all three opportunities — purchasing preloved products, trading in preloved products and recycling preloved products if they can’t be sold.
3. How does it reduce environmental impact?
The longer we can keep any of our products in circulation, without going to a landfill, the better those products become for the environment. Even nonsellable products can still be recycled into something else, further preventing it from ever entering a landfill.
4. Is this a consumer-facing initiative only, or are retailers able to benefit from it?
This is very much a consumer-facing and retailer initiative. Customers are able to return their products directly to Cariloha HQ, who then sends them to their recycling/upcycling team to either be listed for sale or to be recycled. Customers are also able to list their own preloved Cariloha products directly on the Bamboo Renew site and earn credit/money for any items they sell. Cariloha retail locations are also able to offer this program to end customers or to promote it within their individual locations, offering discounts as an incentive to recycle/resell preowned items and to purchase new items.
We care about taking care of the environment. This program is something other businesses can implement on their own. It’s available for everyone. The more we can keep out of landfills, the better.
5. How does this fit into Cariloha’s commitment to sustainability?
Ultimately, Cariloha is striving to give its products a circular life and keep them out of landfills. We’re not perfect, but we believe small steps will help make big impacts in the long run.
6. How does this help build the Cariloha brand name?
We love giving more opportunities for customers to experience our bamboo bedding, bath and apparel. More opportunities to shop or trade in products gives customers even more likelihood to switch to bamboo by Cariloha.
