Reimagined Sealy Posturepedic line features new coil, aesthetics in 35-model offering

It’s red, white and blue and features an all-new spring, too.

The new Sealy Posturepedic line, debuting at the Las Vegas Market, represents a reimagining of the iconic Posturepedic brand, launched 75 years ago. The new line, retailing from $799 to $2,399, features fresh aesthetics in red, white and blue colors, a streamlined merchandising lineup and clearer step-up stories throughout the four levels in the line.

All of the models incorporate a new PrecisionFit coil designed by Tempur Sealy International’s research and development team over a 30-month period. The encased coils are designed to provide conforming support at the top of the unit and increasing support as more pressure is applied to them. The exclusive, patent-pending coils adapt to the sleeper’s unique size and shape to help the body maintain its natural alignment, officials say.

“Our team has created something impressive with this PrecisionFit Coil,” said Scott Thompson, TSI’s CEO and chairman. “Their dedication to innovation truly differentiates Sealy Posturepedic from the competition, and it gives our customers the long-lasting support they need for a great night’s sleep. We are committed to continuing our investment in Sealy to further cement its status as America’s No. 1 mattress brand.”

This is the first all-new coil design that Sealy has introduced in the Posturepedic line in decades, officials said.

The line is designed to reduce what Sealy is calling “Bed Aches,” the stiffness, soreness and lingering pain that it says more than two-thirds of sleepers experience when they wake up. Those problems are usually due to consumers sleeping on a mattress that doesn’t properly align or support their body, officials noted, and they say the new line was engineered to provide the superior comfort that can reduce those aches and pains.

Hybrid models, those featuring specialty foams and springs, play an important role in the new line, with a dozen hybrids being offered. Hybrid designs, which Posturepedic first introduced in 2013, continue to resonate with consumers on retail floors, officials said.

The new line begins shipping this month and should be placed on most dealers’ floors by Memorial Day, the traditional kickoff of the peak summer selling season.

Sealy has streamlined the offerings in the Posturepedic line, traditionally one of the largest lines in the industry. The new line includes 35 models, down from 48 in the previous line, and aims to create a more compelling merchandising offering.

Sealy officials say this is the biggest reinvention of the Posturepedic brand since Sealy switched Posturepedic from a two-sided line to a one-sided line in the early 2000s. They believe that the Posturepedic introduction will mark the largest product launch in the industry this year, and they say it will be a major driver in sparking business at mid-level price points.

The launch will be backed by a multimillion-dollar national advertising campaign and by an elevated in-store Posturepedic presentation, both designed to drive retail success with the line.

Details on the advertising campaign and retail programs will be announced later, officials said.

Josh Fenner, director of marketing at Sealy, holds a new PrecisionFit Coil.

The new PrecisionFit Coils, developed at TSI’s R&D facility in Trinity, North Carolina, are at the heart of the new Posturepedic line. They were designed to provide the proper amount of support for both the lighter and heavier parts of the body without sacrificing comfort.

The coils are offered in three different support systems:

  • The Posturepedic Support System is offered on Sealy Posturepedic Level mattresses, starting at $799. It features 736 encased coils in a queen-size mattress. Those models have a Coil Edge for a solid seating surface.
  • The Posturepedic Plus Support System is offered on Sealy Posturepedic Plus Level mattresses, starting at $999. It provides support all the way to the mattress edge with a design featuring 966 encased coils. These models also utilize a DuraFlex Coil Edge, which utilizes smaller diameter encased coils to provide a supportive sleeping surface to the edge of the mattress and to help prevent sagging over time.
  • The Posturepedic Pro Support System is offered on the Sealy Posturepedic Pro and Elite Level mattresses and includes PrecisionFit Coils arranged from the head to the foot of the mattress in a design featuring 1,066 encased coils. Those lines also offer MaxSupport Technology — an extra set of coils for targeted support. The Sealy Posturepedic Pro line starts at $1,299, while the Elite Level offerings start at $1,599.

Some models in the line include advanced SealyChill Technology that combines cooling fibers woven into the cover with a cooling enhancement in the top foam layer to deliver 40% more cooling compared to what is offered in some other Posturepedic models.
