Analysts: Industry optimistic about 2026 prospects

Industry analysts gave the recent Las Vegas Market good reviews and see encouraging business prospects in the coming months.

Peter Keith, senior research analyst for Piper Sandler, who attended the market and visited a number of mattress and home furnishings showrooms, was impressed with what he heard.

“We walked away more bullish on the mattress and furniture industries for 2026, as current year-to-date trends appear healthy with easy compares ahead for the next two months, and most industry participants expect 2026 to see stronger growth than 2025 (and are willing to lean in with greater advertising),” Keith wrote in his report on the market.

He addressed a number of issues facing the mattress industry in his report, including Somnigroup International’s proposed acquisition of supplier Leggett & Platt. He said that proposed acquisition “is expected by industry participants to close, with accretion from the Mattress Firm acquisition and the potential L&P acquisition creating attractive multi-year earnings growth tailwinds.”

Keith said that mattress showrooms offering brands not sold at Mattress Firm or partially owned by SGI “appeared to be abnormally busy as retailers look for alternative suppliers. Certainly, we are not hearing about retailers reducing exposure to SGI brands. But rather, retailers are increasingly looking for differentiation from Mattress Firm’s offering.”

He said he found “healthy optimism” in the mattress category. “The business tone from both mattress suppliers and retailers was positive,” he wrote. “Up until the most recent weekend, January appears to have been decent despite a tough year-over-year compare. Everyone we spoke with believes the mattress industry bottomed out in 2025 such that 2026 sales growth should be greater than 2025 sales growth.”

He added that “much of the industry is getting ready to lean in on promos and advertising for the Presidents’ Day selling period. Not only does Presidents’ Day weekend have a very easy year-over-year compare, but a successful Presidents’ Day weekend can help set the tone for the year. A successful Presidents’ Day will likely cause the industry to lean into promos/advertising for Memorial Day weekend and the summer selling season.”

Also giving the recent market good reviews was Zelman & Associates.

“We attended the furniture show in Las Vegas and talked to dozens of suppliers,” the firm said in its market report. “Traffic was higher than both last summer and a year ago, and overall sentiment improved. Most saw revenue growth in line with or even better than the prior quarter. Demand in the e-commerce channel was better than in the brick-and-mortar channels, and higher price points were more resilient. The category appears to have bottomed out in 2025, and most industry participants are optimistic about 2026.”

Looking at traffic, the firm wrote: “Despite storm-driven flight cancellations impacting many participants, the majority of suppliers we talked to had traffic above both last summer and last year. After the low bar set last July, the improved mood was palpable, though guarded. For most, sentiment ranged from cautiously optimistic to outright optimistic.”
