BNN’s Best In Bedding Retailers: Southeast

Welcome to the third installment of Bedding News Now’s inaugural look at the best mattress retailers across the country. This report profiles bedding standouts in the Southeast.

We developed these reports by inviting industry submissions, combing through the latest installment of the Home News Now 125 Furniture and Bedding Retailers, and then identifying other mattress retailers known for their commitment to the category. After reviewing our candidates with several bedding manufacturers, suppliers and consultants, we arrived at our selections for the five Best In Bedding retailers in each region.

We excluded national mattress retailers like Mattress Firm, which have a strong presence in many regions in the country. We also excluded direct-to-consumer retailers, a growing force in the mattress category. Future reports will examine those other types of retailers. Our focus now is local and regional mattress stars.

The retailers we are saluting are not listed by volume. Our goal is not to simply recognize mattress revenues, although many of these retailers are generating high mattress volumes, but to celebrate depth of commitment to the mattress category in all sizes of bedding operations, from single-store giants to chains with hundreds of stores. Our selections spotlight brick-and-mortar powerhouses who stand tall in the regions they first began serving years ago – and who continue to embody excellence in mattress retailing today.

We asked leaders from the mattress manufacturing sector and industry consultants to comment on each of our notable mattress retailers.

Rooms To Go, based in Seffner, Florida, operates showrooms in 10 states along the coastline from Virginia to Texas, as well as in Tennessee. RTG is looking to open its largest showroom at 51,000 square feet, about 10,000 square feet more than average size, in the West Kendall area in Miami-Dade County. The store will be at the Kendall Village West Shopping Plaza in a former Barnes & Noble location. The retailer is in the process of expanding its distribution center in Harnett County in Dunn, N.C., by some 336,000 square feet.

Why they stand out: “Rooms To Go thrives in the mattress business under the leadership of one of the best merchants in the industry, Jon Studner,” says Bob Hellyer, an industry veteran and consultant. “The company is incredibly agile and is a master at merchandising to the markets it serves and emphasizing the strong bedding values it offers. I can’t say enough good things about Rooms To Go.”

El Dorado Furniture, based in Miami Gardens, Florida, is a South Florida furniture and bedding retailer with 16 El Dorado Furniture showrooms and three outlet centers. In January 2025, opened its 19th showroom, a 45,000-square-foot store in Altamonte Springs in the Orlando area – the retailer’s first in the area.

Why they stand out: “As a family-owned business deeply rooted in its communities, El Dorado combines decades of expertise, personalized service, and trusted brands to deliver a sleep experience that big-box and warehouse stores simply can’t match,” says Laurie Tokarz, Restonic president.

City Furniture, based in Tamarac, Florida, operates throughout Florida with City Furniture showrooms and 14 Ashley stores as well as an e-commerce site. The retailer has two Clearance & Outlet Centers located at the Sawgrass and Plant City showrooms. City Furniture will begin construction on a new showroom in Daytona later this year and is in negotiations to develop a new store at The Villages, in the Orlando region. Is also negotiating on two sites in Jacksonville and is searching for property to develop in South Orlando and in Melbourne.

Why they stand out: “City Furniture offers the leading mattress brands: Tempur-Pedic, Beautyrest Black, Sealy, Stearns & Foster, Serta, Avocado, Aireloom, Kevin Charles and Zinus,” says Jim Nation, vice president of national sales for South Bay International. “Their private label Kevin Charles by Sealy line strengthens their value offerings. The have one of Florida’s largest galleries, offer free shipping on all mattresses, and have a 120-Day Comfort Guarantee. City Furniture offers the strongest value assortment in the market, one that competes with online retailers.”

Mattress Warehouse, based in Frederick, Maryland, offers name-brand bedding including Tempur-Pedic, Casper, Serta, Stearns & Foster, Purple, Kingsdown and Beautyrest. Also offers a wide selection of sleep products such as pillows, sheets, blankets, mattress protectors, mattress toppers, bed frames and platform beds. Showrooms average between 3,000 and 7,000 square feet. In May 2025, Mattress Warehouse completed the acquisition of 176 store locations from Somnigroup International. The acquisition includes 73 Mattress Firm locations, 103 Sleep Outfitters stores, seven distribution centers, and corporate offices in Lexington, Kentucky. The expansion increases the retailer’s presence across the eastern United States from New Hampshire to Florida and westward to Chicago and Milwaukee.
